SMI Tunnel Thrusters

SMI produces L-Drive thrusters in capacities from 250 to 1000 h.p. They are designed to  accept diesel engine, electric or hydraulic prime movers, and utilize both fixed and controllable pitch propellers to satisfy any precision maneuvering application. SMI Thrusters feature a hydrodynamically streamlined Ni-resist gear case. The high nickel content of the gear case makes it durable and non-corrosive.SMI Thruster's design ratio of the hub to propeller and tunnel diameter provides maximum thrust efficiency.

SMI incorporates the latest developments in gear transmission with properly matched modern propeller design to produce a line of thrusters which succeeded in converting engine power into maximum full-power operating capability.SMI gears are of the Zyclo Palloid (Klingelnberg) Design to meet the DIN 3991 Standard. Materials used in the manufacturing are premium alloys of the highest quality. Gear Sets are hardened and lapped in pairs, larger gears are hardened and ground. Materials, tolerances, gear pattern and backlash are traceable through the SMI production record.

The Application Engineering Department is immediately available to assist you in selecting the equipment which will efficiently and economically satisfy your individual design requirements. Product performance characteristics, certified dimensions, and installation recommendations are available upon request.
